About Scout Association of Republic Srpska
ESTABLISHMENT
Scout Association of Republic Srpska (the Association) was founded in May 6, 1997, in Brcko by representatives of several scout units from Republic of Srpska. The scout units renewed their pre-war activities. The seat of the Association was moved from Brcko to Banja Luka by the decision made at the Assembly session held in March 14, 1999, in Srpski Brod. With donation of CARE the Association improved its work and moved into new office on December 1st 1999.
ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
The Association is voluntary, non-political, educational organization for all young people regardless of their background, religion or race. The purpose of the Association is to contribute to development of physical, intellectual and spiritual skills of young people thus enabling them to be good individuals, responsible citizens and members of their local, national, and international community. The mission of the scout organization is to contribute to their creation of a better world through education of young people.
WORLD ORGANIZATION OF SCOUT MOVEMENT (WOSM) MEMBERSHIP
The Association became a member of the WOSM in July 26, 1999 on 35th World Scout Conference in Durban, South Africa. Together with the Association of the Federation of BiH the Association formed a joint body, i.c. Council, consisted of 12 members, 6 from each Association. The Association can operate independently from the Federation of BiH. The Association is also a member of the International Orthodox Scout Net (DESMOS) with the seat in Greece Being a member of WOSM and DESMOS the Association became equal to all other national scout organization and get oportunity to co-operate and exchange knowledge and experience with them.
THE ASSOCIATION EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The Association considers educational activities as one of the most important activities in the creation of positive attitude toward somebody or something. Therefore the Association organizes basic and advance courses and seminars, as well as attends seminars organized by WOSM and other international organizations dealing with education of young people. The program of the Association includes broad spectrum of activities conducted through various workshops. There is detailed plan and program of theoretical and practical work for each workshop. The workshops are led by younger leaders - instructors. The workshops are the following:
  • topography,
  • orienteering,
  • pioneering,
  • first aid,
  • ecology,
  • nature discovery,
  • journalism,
  • computers,
  • radio amateurism.
    Beside the above activities the Association organizes competitions, camps and gatherings where members have possibilities to practice and improve their skills. The Association works on expansion of its activities.
    STATUS AND ROLE OF THE ASSOCIATION IN THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA
    The Association is one of many youth organization in the Republic of Srpska, as well as one of the founders of the Youth forum of the Republic of Srpska which is the umbrella Association for all youth organizations in Republic of Srpska. The Association have a very big role in society because it's one of the bigest youth organization on the teritory of Republic Srpska and because of his specific education program which is very important for development of young people. Although non-government and non-political organization, due to its program activities the Association co-operates with Ministry of sport and youth of the Republic of Srpska.
